Affordable Bathroom Units

Make Your Small Bathroom Warm and Inviting in Six Simple Steps

It is possible to make every corner of your home a more comfortable place. With a bit of creativity and forethought, you can turn every room into a welcoming oasis that keeps the outside world at bay, and provides a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The bathroom in particular is a place where people turn to for luxurious self-indulgence, as they both start and end their day there. Even the most functional rooms in your home, like the bathroom, can be transformed into something wonderful. To prove this to you, we have put together a selection of some of the easiest ways in which you can remake your bathroom, and get more out of the often-limited space.

#1 Install a Corner Sink

Sometimes even a pedestal sink can impede the only available traffic lane in the bathroom. There is a simple solution to this. Placing a corner sink across from the toilet works better than a sink across from the shower. The closing and opening of the shower door normally creates an awkward walk-around condition that can be avoided if you do this.

#2 Use a Shower Curtain

The shower curtain that concertinas on a rail saves space over a glass door that hinges. A practical shower-bath combo can fit into a small space, with some baths fitting remarkably well into a smaller bathroom.

#3 Float the Bathroom Vanity

Aside from merely visually helping the bathroom to appear bigger, mounting a vanity above the floor also frees up some space for small items. It is a beautiful, stylistic approach to keeping your bathroom uncluttered, and it gives you more floor space to work with, and a more unobstructed walkway and navigation.

#4 Round the Vanity

Tight spaces can turn sharp corners into hip hazards. If the corners of a vanity would get in the way, there is an easy workaround. Simply opt for a bathroom vanity with a rounded style, because it can work extremely well in a square space. As a bonus, no more bruised hips!

#5 Extend the Counter Over the Toilet

The banjo-style arrangement can be pulled off using a wooden or stone slab. The extended counter creates just enough space for those few needed items that do not have any other storage area. Toilet placement will not be affected, and the look is minimalist and clean.

#6 Expand the Mirror

In the tightest of spaces, having a mirror stretch across the wall rather than just the vanity enables two people to use it at once, and makes the room look bigger. In very small spaces, every centimetre helps!

Low-Cost Bathrooms

How to Make the Most out of Your Low-Cost Bathroom

Low cost does not necessarily equate with poor quality. You can enjoy years of reliable service from low-cost bathrooms without being bogged down with constant maintenance and repairs. What is more, with some forethought and planning, you can get the same amount of joy and pleasure out of your cheaper bathroom than someone enjoys with a much more expensive bathroom. It is all about perspective, and what you decide to do with your space. If you want to get the most out of your low-cost bathroom, there are inexpensive ways of doing so. You do not need a big budget to transform your bathroom into a relaxing space that acts as an escape from the hustle and bustle of rushed modern-day life. Let us look at how you can make the most out of your low-cost bathroom without breaking the bank.

Beautiful Tiles

Adding tiles to a bathroom is always a great way to immediately boost its ambience, but tiles can be expensive, especially when you hire a professional installer to lay them for you. To save money, limit the tiled surface area and rather than tiling both the floor and the inside of the shower stall’s walls, instead focus on the most noticeable areas. Alternatively, you can simply tile a horizontal strip along the wall, and paint the rest of the wall with a complementing colour. If you have set your heart on an expensive, artistic tile, consider using it as an accent alongside a cheaper tile. Not only will this make the artistic tile stand out more, but you also save a lot of money by only using a few tiles here and there.

Save on Countertops

A popular trend in South Africa is to splurge on granite countertops. As bathroom counters are so small, the investment may be fairly low when compared to what you would spend on a kitchen counter. So how can you save even more? Take a look at the colour. Neutral colours like brown, tan and light beige tend to be more popular, which means they also have a higher price tag. To save money, consider casting your colour net a little wider.

It is All About the Paint

If you do not have a large budget, repainting is one of the cheapest and best ways to give your low-cost bathroom a new look. A word of caution: it will always take more time than you think. Why is this? Even though your bathroom may be the smallest room in the house, you are going to have to paint slowly and carefully around the window(s), shower, sink, tub, toilet, and mirror, as well as the wall corners and the floor. This takes time and a lot of patience, so make sure you keep this in mind when planning your bathroom painting project.

Update Fixtures

Updating fixtures requires you to consider the little details. You can easily and affordably update light fixtures, sink faucets, drawer pulls, and towel racks for a relatively low investment. While these items may seem insignificant, updating them can make a huge difference to your bathroom’s look and feel.

One of the biggest threats facing a property with a new shower installation is water damage. With a waterproof shower unit, you can sleep easy at night knowing that when you are enjoying the shower, you are not causing water damage to your property. It pays to make sure your shower is completely waterproofed, because water damage may go unnoticed at first.

There are many ways to waterproof a shower. Contrary to popular belief, the process does not need to be time-consuming or costly. Therefore, if you do not want to disrupt your family’s lives with a big project, or break the bank to make sure your shower has been waterproofed, you can increase the value of your home and your peace of mind without contracting expensive professional wet trades by investing in a built-in waterproof shower.

Shower Units

How You Can Make the Most out of Your Shower Space Today

Many modern homeowners are having to contend with a house market that is trying to make sense of a major push for urbanisation in South Africa. What this means for the average homeowner is that they are buying a home that is much smaller than what they might have grown up in. This is because more and more South Africans are flocking to South Africa’s larger cities in search of better economic opportunities. It also means there is a greater demand for housing.

To meet this greater demand, developers are building smaller homes, in order to produce more accommodation. In order to get the most out of your home, you need to maximise every squared centimetre of available space. This also means that you need to get as much out of your small bathroom as possible. It is because of this that many homeowners prefer only having a shower, as opposed to a bath unit that might take up more valuable floor space in an already-small bathroom. There are ways in which you can get more out of your small bathroom. Do this by making the most out of your shower space. Let’s take a closer look at how you can maximise your shower space, and make every available inch earn its keep.

Be Smart About Storage Space in the Bathroom

In any home, the shower is a catchall for bottles of shampoo and conditioner, sponges, soaps, and washcloths. These essentials end up accumulating the corners and eventually taking over valuable space. For a quick fix, considering hanging a stainless steel wire shelf system from the showerhead, or installing an expandable pole shelf unit in the corner.

Another tip for creating a shower that seems spacious is to install glass shower walls, as this gives the illusion of more space, and lets in more light. For those who do not have space or resources to install glass doors, replace the shower curtain rod with a curved rod to make the space feel larger. When you are not using the shower, keep the curtain open as it also helps to create the illusion of more space. Get more from your small shower by installing a handheld shower head on a slide bar. While it provides you with a spa-like feeling, it is also adjustable so that people of varying heights can use it comfortably. This is just one more way that you can personalise your shower to your specific needs, and to make the time spent in your bathroom more pleasant and enjoyable.

Show Your Creativity in the Little Details

While choosing important aspects of any bathroom like the tiles and other accessories are not always in your hands, other things are. Be creative when it comes to choosing towels, bathmats, and the shower curtain, as they allow you to personalise the space to your needs. Co-ordinate your accessories by basing them on a common theme like texture or colour, and you will be surprised how this balance between style and comfort can add to the spaciousness and enjoyment of a bathroom.

Practical Design Tips to Make a Small Bathroom Better

As anyone who has a small bathroom knows, trying to make everything fit in the available space is eerily similar to doing a giant crossword puzzle. Among the challenges is configuring the sink and toilet comfortably, allowing enough space for a shower, and of course, where to put the towel rail. In most instances, and despite these challenges, it is still better to squeeze in an additional bathroom where one is desperately needed, even if it must be small.

Even if it’s your main bathroom that is this small, you can still get a lot out of it. One of the first ways to maximise any small bathroom is to install a corner sink. At times, even a pedestal sink can end up disrupting the only available traffic lane in a bathroom. In this instance, placing a corner sink across from the toilet could work better than a sink across from the shower unit. Avoid creating an awkward walk-around condition with the opening and closing of the shower door in your bathroom.

One effective trick to create the illusion of more space is to opt for a shower curtain rather than a glass door. Shower-bath combinations are also a great fit for smaller spaces. The reason the shower curtain is a better option for smaller spaces is that it can retract when not in use, avoiding the permanent separation of space that a permanent door creates. It leaves the room looking and feeling airier than would otherwise be possible.

Float the Vanity and Open Up the Floor Space

By floating the vanity, you can help the bathroom appear bigger. Do this by mounting a vanity above the floor, freeing up some space for small items and also making an aesthetic statement. Consider using a rounded vanity, as tight spaces can make sharp edges a hip hazard.  You will be surprised at how well a round vanity can work in a square space, and no more bruised hips! Another way to make any bathroom space seem larger than it is, is to use a large-scale pattern. This pattern can be can be something like a wide strip used to trick the eye into seeing expanded space. While the square footage of your bathroom may stay the same, the room will feel bigger.

Expand the mirror in your bathroom, and you may be surprised at its effectiveness. In the tightest of spaces, having a mirror stretch across the wall rather than just the space of the vanity can enable two people to use it at once without feeling cramped. Keep in mind that in less-than-deal space conditions, every centimetre helps. Use everything from your wall space to floors and lighting to your advantage.

Bathroom Basin and Unit

Six Easy Ways to Relax In Your Bathroom

Decorating your new bathroom, or redecorating it, is always a pleasure, especially once it’s complete! The bathroom offers an escape from the pressures of modern-day life, where you can go to unwind and centre yourself amidst the humdrum of the daily routine. So, while the emphasis of a redecoration may be on the décor and practical elements like your bathroom’s basin and unit, there are some points you need to keep in mind in order to ultimately get the most satisfaction out of the décor choices. After all, a beautiful bathroom that offers little or no personal joy is pointless. So, let’s take a closer look at some easy ways to make your bathroom more inviting and relaxing. We promise that these tips are easy to implement and they’ll pay off in all the best ways:

#1 Plan

Make your life a lot easier by doing plenty of planning. There are few things as capable of killing a post-bath buzz than realising, as you’re stepping out, that you don’t have a towel in which to wrap yourself. Similarly, running out of soap, shampoo, or even bubble bath can entirely ruin the experience. Planning and allowing generous storage space can keep your bathroom full of the necessities needed to make the most out of your you-time.

#2 It’s All About Happy Colours

Aside from the actual bathroom ‘hardware’ like your basin, unit, and bath, there is something easy you can do to make a lasting impact on the mood of your bathroom. Choose a soothing colour scheme. While vibrant and clashing colours may be a current trend sweeping through the interior décor industry, they may also serve to unnerve you in the bathroom. We’re not saying that you should keep it bland at all. But opting for your favourite colours and using muted tones can encourage your busy brain to unwind and just be present in the moment. Isn’t that what we all want from a sanctuary?

#3 Level Lighting Is Where It’s At

This could be tricky to pull off, but it doesn’t need to be. Lighting in your bathroom should be bright enough to banish shadows, otherwise the room has the potential of coming across as gloomy and even a little sinister. But it shouldn’t be so dazzling that it sears the retinas. Today, it is possible to find modern lights that simulate the gentle flickering of candlelight, perfect for de-stressing after a whirlwind day.

#4 Keep It Decluttered

As every homeowner knows, every room in the home accumulates “things”. The bathroom is no different. Regardless of what it is, if it isn’t needed in the bathroom, throw it out! This is even more important for small bathrooms, where the basin, unit, and bath already take up a lot of space. Take a hard line with regard to this, and remove Incredible Hulk action figures, Beach Barbie and magazines from the sanctuary.

#5 Clean Up Before the Clean-Up

Keeping the bathroom dry and clean has a direct impact on how much relaxation you get from spending time in there. This is even more important for homes that have extractor fans in their bathrooms because there are no windows or natural light sources. These are found in a growing number of residential properties in South Africa, as the push for urbanisation has prompted a shift in design of many homes, and where bathrooms now don’t necessarily come standard with windows anymore, in order to maximise space. Avoid letting condensation build up, apply anti-mould solutions, and make sure to air the bathroom whenever possible. The last thing you want is to bathe in a room where mildew and mould grow, and where suspicious whiffs abound.

#6 Pamper Yourself

Along with all those bathroom necessities, make sure that you include indulgent bath oils, bubble baths, and bath bombs that can take your soak from ordinary to luxurious. Don’t skimp on this, and you’ll be looking forward to getting through your day just for that small window of special relaxation time in your personalised bathroom. We sell quality, durable, and affordable complete and small bathroom units, consisting of baths, showers, basins, and units. With many years’ experience, a comprehensive catalogue of products and a dedicated 24/7 maintenance team in Johannesburg, we’re your first choice for modern and beautiful bathrooms.

Design a Compact Bathroom

Five Practical Tips to Design a Compact Bathroom

Practical bathrooms are not so much a current trend sweeping through South Africa as it is a necessity. More people have to contend with smaller homes and spaces nowadays as property becomes more expensive and space is selling at a premium. There are many reasons for this, including a strong  housing demand due to increased urbanisation. Whatever the case may be, if you need to contend with a compact bathroom, we have got some great tips to help you make the most out of your limited space. Compact does not need to equate to unpleasant. You can still make your bathroom a sanctuary from the outside world with beautiful basins, baths, and shower units. With some planning and forethought, you can look forward to a practical and beautiful space that ticks all the boxes.

#1 Measure, Then Measure Again

When designing your compact bathroom, be prepared to invest a great deal of time in measuring out the space before spending a single rand. Taking the time to plan the floor layout, and source each piece of the bathroom, whether it is the basin, toilet, or bath, from the same supplier to ensure that you end up with a well put together small bathroom that just works on all fronts. It is even more important to get every detail right in a small room, as any mistakes are amplified and will show up far more readily in a compact bathroom. But it is entirely avoidable when you put in the time to smell the roses and take care of the detail.

#2 Storage, Storage, Storage

Toiletries, bathroom cleaning products, spare towels and toilet rolls… the list of products needed in a bathroom can at times seem endless. When you plan a compact bathroom, the last thing you want is to end up with a room that looks like a scullery filled with household supplies. Make sure you take this into account during the planning phase. There are many innovative storage solutions available, aside from the basic and expected. You can invest in a bathroom basin that comes as part of a unit, and use the storage space beneath the basin to full effect. Floating racks are great too, and helps you utilise wall space as storage.

#3 Practical Can Be Beautiful Too

Never feel that your bathroom is too small and therefore leaves no space for beauty. Fight this by picking pieces that can serve a dual purpose, wherever possible. An example of this is choosing the perfect mirror, and one that is as large as possible as this makes your bathroom instantly look more spacious. The mirror can be charming in its own right, while serving its primary purpose.

#4 Achieving a Perfect Balance Between Light and Space

Mirrors add the illusion of space to any room. However, bathrooms more than any other room in the house need to be well lit. For those so inclined, you can install a dimmer switch in your bathroom for a romantic or relaxing atmosphere when the circumstances call for it. However, bathroom users in general need to see clearly in order to apply make-up or simply take care of essential personal grooming for the day ahead. Good lighting has the added advantage of also making a compact bathroom seem bigger than it really is!

#5 Concealed Plumbing

When at all possible, opt for bathroom basins, baths, showers, and toilets that feature concealed pipework and plumbing. Not only does this effectively free up a considerable amount of valuable space, but it also looks neater. Our bathroom and kitchen units are designed for quick and easy installation and maintenance. The products are ideal for compact bathrooms and are suitable for use in homes, apartments, cottages, and Wendy houses. We are proud of our nearly 20-year history of supplying South Africans with innovative and quality, durable bathroom and kitchen solutions.

There is no reason why you need to be satisfied with anything less than the very best when investing your home’s bathroom and kitchen. Our products are acclaimed and enjoy great regard among both the public and private sectors, and have received many accolades from each. Speak to us for all the advice needed to make the most out of your compact bathroom.

Drop-In Basins for Bathroom

What Basin Is Best for Your Bathroom?

Bathroom basins are probably not the first thing many of us think about regularly when pondering bathroom designs. But when you enter the planning phase of your new bathroom, you might find yourself overwhelmed by the surprisingly comprehensive range of choices available to you.

So, what are some of the most popular types of bathroom basins in South Africa? There are quite a few. Whichever one you decide on depends on your personal preferences, the space available in your bathroom and even something as seemingly inane as the amount of traffic your bathroom is set to experience. Let’s take a quick look at some of the most popular trends in bathroom basins today:

  • Pedestal basin: A pedestal basin is affordable, popular and basically a standard drop-in bathroom basin. Not only do these basins look great, but they also hide unsightly pipework and other plumbing from view. They are strong and durable too;
  • Vanity basin: These basins are a great choice for anyone who loves a polished, fitted look. Vanities can be as large or as small as you like, and you’ll find it a sensible, long-term investment choice;
  • Corner basin: Many times, bathrooms are just too small to spare an entire section of the wall for a basin. In these bathrooms, a more practical choice is often to install a smaller corner drop-in basin, just big enough for hand washing and tooth brushing purposes without cramping an already small and overcrowded space.

Our Drop-In Basin Is What Your Bathroom Needs

We are suppliers and installers of a wide range of modern bathroom and kitchen units. Our products are suited to small bathrooms and kitchens, and are used in many affordable housing projects, container conversions, cottages built of brick and wood, as well as other residential properties. Thanks to our passion for everything that is unique and innovative, we continue to set trends in our industry.

Our products have been designed, developed, tested, and refined over a period of nearly 20 years. The GEZA Bathroom Unit with built-in geyser was patented in 1999, and can be bought exclusively from us. We have an extensive range of drop-in basins for modern, compact bathrooms that will be sure to help you get the most out of your limited space. How to Make any Bathroom Look Bigger

It is okay if the guest bathroom is small. A small powder room? That is fine as well. But a small master bathroom…it is just inconvenient, isn’t it? Let’s just say a small bathroom is not something any realtor includes in the house’s brochure, because it is not really a selling point. However, with increasing levels of urbanisation, larger bathrooms now come at a premium. Does this mean you have to settle for a depressing, cramped bathroom? Absolutely not.

To get into the right mindset, remind yourself that it is not about the amount of space you have available, but what you end up doing with it. You can make any bathroom seem bigger than it is through employing some smart design techniques and other tips. Your small bathroom can be designed and styled to look and function just as well as the rest of your beautiful home. Whether it comes to looking for the right bathroom basin to intelligent storage solutions, you can finally get more out of your bathroom space without adding to its square footage.

Keeping Things Real

Every bathroom has to satisfy specific needs and, therefore, needs to include the basics: bathroom basin and faucet, bathing or shower area, and the toilet. Regardless of how cramped and small the space is, these things have to be shoved in there somehow. Oh, and of course a big bathtub, a couple of his and hers bathroom basins, and soft lighting. Those would look nice in a big, luxurious and beautiful bathroom, but many of us simply do not have the luxury of space to accommodate all of that, yet we still make do with what we have.

If we were talking about a living room, you could just move around some chairs, get rid of a sofa or remove the coffee table. But a bathroom without a toilet? Not so much. So how can you make your bathroom seem bigger than it really is? There are a few ways, which we shall share with you right now:

Tip #1: Keep everything the same colour and tone, as far as possible

For example, don’t have dark tiles and light walls, or vice versa, as this chops up the space visually, making it seem smaller than it is. If you are after some contrast, limit it to something that is more of an object in the space, like a light fixture or low cabinet. That object is then bound to stand out as a feature, while the rest recedes and blends together as a backdrop. Remember, recession = expansion of space.

Tip #2: Paint the ceiling the colour as the walls

This is especially important for ceilings that are angled, or that have some oddly shaped low areas. By keeping everything a unified colour, you effectively make those unusual shapes disappear and merge into the background, visually expanding the space. It also cuts down on the number of transitions and intersecting planes. This leads to a cleaner and more expansive upper space in your bathroom.

Tip #3: Watch the transitions

The more you are able to bleed a material from one area of the bathroom into the next without stopping and starting, the cleaner and less cluttered the space appears.
