Different Types of Kitchen Sinks and Their Benefits

Innovations have led to alleviating the workload of many in the kitchen, with coal cooking making way for electric and gas cookers. This included kitchen sinks, once referred to as “dry sinks”, as they were placed on a cabinet or window sill before indoor plumbing found its way into kitchens. Stone, ceramic, and wooden kitchen sinks were soon replaced with more versatile and durable materials, such as steel and enamel, integrating seamlessly with countertops.

With innovative and space-saving design at the forefront of the GEZA brand, our kitchen sink units have been combined with cupboards, stove plates, and more to provide ample functionality in any small area without taking up too much floor space.

Which Types of Kitchen Sinks are Best?

Different types of kitchen sinks are mainly defined not by their aesthetics but by the installation technique and can vary from drop-in sinks, integrated sinks, under-mount sinks, and top-mounted sinks, to name a few. Before selecting a kitchen sink for its visual appeal, it is important to consider what it needs to be used for. Bowl-shaped in design, kitchen sinks are not only installed for washing dishes, but they are also a useful tool in food preparation. At GEZA, we would also urge you to consider the material used for the sink as it is a frequently used amenity, so it should be sturdy and easy to clean.

  1. Single-Bowl Kitchen Sinks

Small in size and compact by design, single-bowl kitchen sinks are simplistic to install. When doing kitchen renovations, the floor as well as the surface area need to be considered. Single kitchen sinks are the best option, taking up little space and less effort for cleaning.

  1. Double-Bowl Kitchen Sinks

These sinks are preferred amongst those that multi-task in the kitchen, providing ample washing-up and food-preparation space. Taking up slightly more space than a single-bowl unit, space needs to be considered before installation. At GEZA, our single- and double-sink units have been uniquely designed to fit into any kitchen space, making it possible to give you the sink and cupboard facilities to complement any kitchen.

  1. Top-Mounted or Drop-In Kitchen Sinks

Taking the hassle out of installations is our drop-in sink design. Our prefabricated countertops have been specifically cut so that the sink units can be effortlessly top mounted, plumbing can be attached, and the units can be used almost immediately.

  1. Kitchen Sinks with Draining Boards

Having a single- or double-bowl sink affords you the functionality that you require. However, without a draining board, the uses are limited. Rinsed produce can be placed on the draining board, allowing the excess water to run off into the sink. It can also be used to place a draining rack where washed dishes can be placed. Our draining boards are uniquely designed with channels that filter water into the sink. Having a countertop including a single or double sink doesn’t take away from the size of the sink bowl. It just provides more working surface space.

Careful thought has gone into each of our kitchen sink units, taking ease of use, practicality, and materials into consideration and giving you a product that will last. At GEZA, our kitchen units are ideal for new builds and renovations where space needs to be considered.

Elegant, Practical, and Relatively Maintenance Free

As previously mentioned, selecting the right type of material for kitchen sinks is just as crucial as the function of the sinks themselves. Selecting stainless steel over other materials for our drop-in, single- and double-bowl units has distinct advantages:

  • Improved technology has led to continuous improvements in the quality and strength of the steel used.
  • As stainless steel is lighter, sink bowls have a bigger capacity, unlike other materials that tend to take up space.
  • The durability and ease of care means that your sink will retain its lustre for years to come, no matter what chemicals are used on it when cleaning.
  • The timeless look of stainless steel will not detract from any existing or new kitchen design. If anything, it will add to your kitchen’s aesthetics.
  • Stainless steel boasts natural anti-corrosive properties, giving you single or double kitchen sinks that will last for years.

Modular Kitchen Cupboards: The Perfect Solution for Small Spaces

Guest houses, B&Bs, garden cottages, and self-catering units all have one thing in common: the necessity to optimally make use of every nook and cranny to provide storage space without leaving guests feeling claustrophobic. Kitchen cupboards from GEZA provide the hospitality industry, as well as smaller homes, the opportunity to have modern, functional kitchen units that utilise floor space efficiently whilst providing ample cupboard space.

Kitchen Cupboards that are Built for Ease of Use and Longevity

Before delving into the types of kitchen cupboards best suited for your requirements, we want to assure you that our modular kitchen units have been built to last. Selecting stainless steel for the countertops as well as fixtures and fittings gives you a surface that won’t crack, chip, or stain; that is easy to take care of; and that is unaffected by the use of household cleaners. Melamine gives kitchen cupboards a modern look and feel, as well as a surface finish that provides strong resistance to moisture, heat, and stains.

Functional Kitchen Units with Ample Storage Space

Kitchen designs for small kitchens can often leave one compromising on cupboard space. Knowing the importance of keeping items such as cleaning products and groceries close at hand, we at GEZA have a range of kitchen cupboards with adjustable shelving, allowing you to decide on the height of the shelves for better storage options.

  1. Sink Units

If all you require for a kitchen is surface space to prepare food and a sink to wash dishes, our single- or double-sink units with kitchen cupboards are the ideal choice. The single unit comes with two pillar cock taps fixed to the top of the sink, whereas our double bowl sink unit has a swivel mixer with a goose-neck spout, adding a contemporary touch. Each sink unit fits comfortably on top of melamine kitchen cupboards with easy-to-open hinged doors and, if a double sink is your preference, a drawer.

Elegant handles on the cupboard doors open to abundant shelving that can be adjusted according to your storage requirements. Our sink units have been innovatively designed as stand-alone units or as an extension of existing units.

  1. Mini Units

Don’t be fooled by the name of these units as they are anything but mini in what they have to offer. What all guests need when on holiday is enough kitchen space to prepare side dishes to go with the braai, a sink to wash up afterwards, a fridge to keep ingredients fresh, and stove plates to cook on should the weather turn. Our mini units with kitchen cupboards offer you two-plate electric stoves, a bar fridge and freezer combo, as well as a durable stainless steel sink with draining board and adjustable cupboard shelving.

Our versatile mini units are available in white or mahogany melamine, perfect colour complements for any open-plan designs.

Additional Amenities and More

Our effective space-saving options have been extended by introducing units with additional kitchen cupboards and amenities through our maxi range, perfect for bachelor pads, garden cottages, and self-catering facilities.

  1. Stove, Sink, and Fridge Maxi Units

Providing you with a sufficient working area between a two-plate electric stove and sink bowl is our stove, sink, and fridge maxi unit. Uniquely designed so that you can select on which side you would prefer the sink or stove, the bar fridge fits snugly underneath the preparation or draining board area, with kitchen cupboards on either side giving you maximum packing space.

  1. Stove, Sink, Fridge, and Microwave Maxi Units

The addition of a 20 to 23 litre microwave to our maxi units gives you extended kitchen use. By keeping all the electric devices conveniently located on one side with the sink on the other side, we have added even more functionality and ease of use to our maxi units, without compromising on storage space.

  1. Gas Hob and Sink Maxi Unit

For those that prefer the reliability of gas, our two-plate gas hob and sink maxi unit with a draining board is the ideal solution. The unit also features a white melamine kitchen cupboard with fixed bottom shelves and adjustable second shelving.

We offer different combinations on our standard mini and maxi units, adding to the convenience afforded by our kitchen units.
